Christmas is almost here....

and yet I have so many things to do still. This year we decided to start a few new traditions inside just our little family. I have so many memories and traditions I made with my mom (we still do them all) and now I want to have a few I do just with my family.

Although I am sad Christmas is almost over, I have to say that I am also very excited to bring in the new year.

2010 has so many new things to offer and I love the idea of fresh starts.

Things I'm looking forward to in 2010:

-Becoming Jesse's wife (ha! I'll have to get use to saying that soon). I loooove him so much! It's crazy how we found each other and how perfect we mesh together. We have the same outlook on life and common goals in life. He is my perfect partner in crime and all I want to do is make him happy and he wants to just make me happy. Ok Ok enough sappy shish but it's true.
I love you Jesse, thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis much:)
even though you steal my pb&j sandwiches.

- Plan a wedding!! I can't wait to start planning "officially". I want fun, affordable, handmade and non-stressful. We've got so many ideas!

-Planning the best road trip to all our favorite states. While also stopping at every antique, thrift and record store insight.

-Re-decorating our home room by room. This is something I always put on the bottom of the list but I really want to get it done and soon at that. I am most excited about all the ideas I have for Santino's room!

-This year I am going to start shopping locally a lot more. We already do but there is alot of ways we could help out more in. Goodbye Starbucks! Here is a really inspiring article on helping out small businesses by just shopping locally. Check out the Phoenix Public Market Grocery Store if you live in AZ, it's great.

-Re-launching our store with a whole new name and look:)))

-And after reading, watching and researching all about food and what we put in our bodies. It's safe to say, I was grossed out and plan to change some stuff. For starters, watch this NY commercial if you want to stop drinking soda. I seriously had a glimpse of this while taking a sip of my orange crush the other night. Eeew! I'm done.

-Then I have a few really important personal and business goals I don't want to share yet so I don't jinx it but are excited about all the same.

It's really refreshing and good for my mind to set up goals and expectations for myself. I function best like this and always work better when I plan it out.

This past year wasn't the best, alot of happy and sad things happened and I feel like I learned and grew a lot as a person but I think the new year will be a lot better for everyone.... I hope so!!

Ok, well now I must get back to working before we have to pick up the little guy at school. Today was Polar Express day and everyone had to wear their Pj's. He looked so cute.

Let's Make and Bake!

How cute is this little cupcake ornament. Make your very own following Amanda's tutorial here at the Bake it Pretty Blog. It's easy, fun and cheap to make. I think I'm going to make a few this weekend.

Turn your traditional white butter cream green with a couple drops of food coloring. Then pile it on in the form of a Christmas tree, now just add sprinkles.

Cupcake garland!! I love this idea. I've tried this before using cupcake liners to make flowers but garland is a great idea. Follow this tutorial and make your very own using all those left over liners. Try it in holiday colors or a classic white and silver.

Green and Red Macaroons. I'm going to try and make macaroons for the first time this year. Wish me luck!

I love Anthropologie's winter window display with all the paper chain links. They make great decorations for any holiday and are fun and easy to make.

Film in the Fridge used fabric instead of paper and it turned out so cute. Good idea for all those fabric scraps we have laying around. I'd like to make a vintage fabric chain to keep up after the holidays.

We are making snow globes for sure this winter. This is always one of the projects that always gets passed up. But no more:)

A mini tour of our little shop...

Right now the shop is still Pink de Ville, we decided to re- launch our shop after the new year and just focus on the holidays. We've been working and working creating all new product for the new shop and I'm can't wait till I get to show everyone. But not until it's all done (that's the point of a re-launch right:) Although, since I can't keep secrets for too long, I might do some sneak peeks.
In the mean time, here's some photos of Pink De Ville.

Sorry for the poor quality photos. I didn't post a bunch of individual photos because the lighting isn't the best lighting for taking pictures inside of Pink House and I HAD to use a flash on some. So editing was not really making them look any better.

I hope everyone's day is going swell. My little guy came home sick from school today, so half my day was spent watching bugs bunny and making chicken noodle soup (with no celery please:) And the first thing he wanted to do was call his grandma and tell her he was sick. Every time Santino gets even a little bit sick, my mom makes him a care package with ice packs, lollipops for your throat, snacks, color books and tino looooves it. Who wouldn't!

Ok, no more procrastinating I am going to work now.

December is already here!!

Our main Christmas tree is finally up!!!

We finished putting our tree up on Sunday, it took a couple hours just to fluff it.

We put it by the window so you can see it from the outside at night.

In our neighborhood, everyone has their window open with their tree just glowing so you can see when you drive by. It's so pretty. I love December.

Now I need to get my other decorations up and find a good spot for our stockings, wreath and our advent calendar.

These are our two new favorite ornaments

This tree is on the ledge between the family room and music room. It's so cute because it's frosted pink!!

We call this our night light tree.

It's right outside our bedroom and makes the upstairs feel all warm and cozy.

I think I'm going to make this tree our handmade tree and put all our handmade ornaments and garland on it.

Santino has seriously painted like a gazillion of those wooden Christmas ornaments, so I'll put them all on this tree.

Today we put up the outside lights on the house, next up is the bushes and trees. I'll post more photos once it's done.

So this week we went down to Frances and Smeeks

and did a little stocking stuffers shopping

A Candyland entrance. Eee! I love it

Smeeks is an adorable candy shop that sells some of the cutest stuff I've seen in a while. Candy galore but will also leave you feeling nostalgic with all of the retro goodies they offer. Like lunch boxes, mushroom shaped erasers and my favorite was a ring with a tiny glass plate made for your finger foods while at a party.

So Cute!

Here's the loot I left with and the packaging is also cute. If it has gnomes on it I seriously can't not like it. I have too:)

I hope everyone's Thanksgiving was great. Ours went really well, we had dinner at my moms, my sister and I helped my mom and it turned out really good. I forgot my camera (when don't I!), so I didn't take any photos.

Then I came home around 7:30pm and we fell asleep (crazy because I neeeever do this). I had to reschedule my "UP" movie date with Tino, luckily I bribed him with dessert and he agreed. Jesse and myself hadn't slept at all and we were so very tired. Wednesday night, we went down to the shop to put up a tree and some shelves and add new stuff. Well a little project turned into a long project and we landed up going home at 8am the next day. The shop is all changed up for the holidays and looks refreshed, I love it. Crazy to think that everything in the shop was handmade by us.

There was no time to sleep though when we got home, I still hadn't even went to the grocery store. So we were kind of like zombies all day, slurring our words and falling asleep every chance we got. You know the kind of sleep where your head keeps nodding off (very funny to watch). But now the shop is cute and ready for Christmas time and that makes it worth it.

Tonight is Downtown Glendale's lights ceremony and holiday festival, so I will be at the shop talking with all the customers and drinking coco. Also, Come back buddy is playing there tonight!

So since I was not all here yesterday I thought I'd do my things I'm thankful for today: santino and his big heart, a perfect partner in crime, a hardworking and beautiful mom, the best grandpa any girlie can have, my twin sister (not really but it seems like it), forts, coffee and books, all the rest of my family and friends and all of our health, my creative and whimsical job worth it even if I work 70+ hours a week and lastly but not least, all of my lovely, clever and creative blog friends that come here and read everyday and inspire me all the time. You guys are too sweet!

Ok now I'm off to Hobby Lobby to check out some sales and look for a christmas tree.

I have a DIY tutorial coming in a few days so lookout for it:)

Meet my new ladybot.

We have decided to collect a robot family

We have the mamabot now we need the papabot and the boybot:)

I wonder if I can find robot dogs, hmmm.

This week was full of good vintage finds

-a couple pretty mugs with matching saucers (always a plus)

-3 graph paper journals

-some more records (Johnny Cash Greatest Hits is a repeat buy we couldn't leave it behind though)

-tons of embroidery hoops, like 5

-Jesse found 4 vintage ashtrays to add to his collection (the glass one on the left I've saw on That 70's Show:)

Funny thing is I don't smoke and Jesse only occasionally smokes but we have a pretty nice ashtray collection. Ha!

Anyone else feel like there is a gazillion things to get done??

Being that this time of year is any crafty gals busiest time, getting ready for events, updating our shops, photo shoots, editing, sample making and lets not forget all the handmade presents we all want to make and all the handmade christmas decoration ideas we have in mind to fill our houses up with... Ooh and the baking and the fort building and the gift swaps and the post office lines......pheeeew!

I think a little movie time while making stuff will do me good.

It's busy but I looove what I do, although sometimes I want to leave my sewing machine out in the street so someone can "steal" it.

I'm kidding, I love her.

News!!

Ok, so I have a few new things going on in my life....

1) Pink De Ville is getting a revamp, a facelift and being re-invented!! and I'm changing the name along the way to fit our new shop.

I am really excited and have lots of plans for the NEW SHOP opening very soon (online and the brick & mortar shop).

2)I'm opening a coffee bar at a local medical facility and it's taking over everything in my life right now but I'm really excited!!

3)We are setting up shop at a few new art fairs in the next few months, so stay tuned:)

4) Planning and collaborating on an exciting project involving all local artists (and non local) but still a secret as of now

5) And I'm planning a wedding:)

Although this all may not seem like alot, I am definitely feeling the pressure but in a very exciting way.

I have lots of big plans for the next few years and it includes lots of work.

So I wanted to ask all you crafty girlies (local & non local) if you'd be intrested in collaborating/selling your handmade goodies in an art collective with our new shop. It would give you the chance to spread the word about your business and be discovered by new customers. You'd be featued online with our website and also at our brick and motar shop. Lulu- My lulu bear is naughty and is in time out most of the time..ha! She's a maltipoo and she cuddles like no other.She loves me the most (she told me so but don't tell jesse or tino).

Today we are going to bake some sweet treats and handout lots of candy (I love seeing what all the little one's dress up as). Then family is coming over and we're taking our little guys trick-or-treating. And later in the night, we'll finish our film fest!

Last night as my sister and I were locking up Pink House, the city lit up all the christmas lights in the park.

We got all excited. We went and sat at the park, took pictures and just talked outside for about an hour. We've lived in Glendale for almost our entire life but we always get excited when they start testing out the lights this time of year because it means christmas is coming!!

Jesse and myself are looking into buying this store/home in Downtown Glendale

the bottom part would be our Coffee shop/cupcakery/handmade store and the upstairs our home!

Plus there is a basement too, haven't even started to think about that part yet. Maybe a combination of an Art studio for us and Tino (his latest "what he wants to be when he grows up" is an artist) and a music studio. We do have enough stuff to fill up an entire basement. It would be perfect and all in one cozy space. We've planned to move in a few years to Oregon but if all goes good maybe we'll be back in downtown glendale soon.

If you like peach pie put your hands up!!

Ok so this weekend I decided to try out "miss" James pie in a jar idea

and it was a success and really good too

First up you gather all your supplies

-fruit of choice

-mason jars

-pie crust (i love that she used pre-made pie crust) but shhhh....

-butter and a little sugar

So here's the lowdown

-peel and cut your fruit of choice

-lightly grease your jars

-spread your pie crust into the jars until they are covered completely

-I just mixed my peaches with a little sugar

and a teenie tiny bit of vanilla extract and cinnamon

-scoop the peaches into your pie crust jars

- cut your strips of pie crust and top your pies off with a lattice look

-with a brush of butter and sugar your almost done

-bake at 400 degrees for about 40 minutes

-enjoy with some vanilla ice cream!

I'm late I'm late I'm late!!!

The story of my life running late everywhere we go. I once told an old job can you just trick me and schedule me 30 minutes earlier then you want me to be here. You see, this way I come running in at probably 6:45am for my "scheduled time" of 6:30am and my real scheduled time would be 7am, so I wouldn't be late!!! But remember I can't know it's my fake scheduled time because then in the back of my brain, I'll just be thinking, "ooh I still have time I don't go in for 30 more minutes, I'm gonna get a coffee!!". They didn't go for it:( And I eventually had to have my regular time management talk Every Friday. Somethings wrong with me, no matter how early I try and get up or prepare stuff the night before, I'm in the same situation always a minute too late. But at least now that I am my own boss when I'm late I totally understand.

Well I do and all the while I was smotherd in Vicks too

So today I am "kind of " taking it easy

I say kind of because I'm not fully not working

I still have done website work and now I'm cutting fabric

But when Mr. Jesse gets home

we're making waffles with fresh fruit toppings

and we are all veggin out

I need these glasses....seriously

last night was so much fun

we went and got coffee then stood in line for

3 and 1/2 hours (i embroidered)

to see "Where the wild things are"

The movie is just as good as you think it's gonna be

I fell in love with it and think it was beautifully made

Oh my gosh wait till you meet all the characters

they are all so funny and adorable

I bet they give the best hugs!!

my favorite character was KW

but they all were so cute and funny

And Max reminded me of my own son

in certain parts

If you have a little boy I think you'll understand

You won't regret seeing it

the only down side is

you'll want it to last longer and never end!

Tonight we are going to the Imax

to see the midnight showing of

"Where the wild things are"

I'm sooo excited

we are making gold crowns and wolf ears

to wear right now

A whole group of us are going

and we are gonna get there early

because we have to get in line so we get in for sure!

I once saw a segment on the news

I think it was about Harry Potter fans

if not it was Star wars for sure

Anyway, the news people were talking to all these

people that camped out and had been waiting hours and hours

to see this movie at midnight.

I just giggled at the T.V.

"Those silly fans"

I imagined the people in full costume sitting on lawn chairs

just waiting and waiting to see this movie they had been waiting for

and I didn't really get it

Well I can laugh no more

we will wear crowns and fur ears

Tino even wants a tail

it's fun:)

Ok well I have to run to the grocery store and make dinner

because we need to get going soon!

this weekend we are going to decorate our house for fall

and visit a pumpkin patch and pick some apples

we've stood there a bunch and love it

it's supposedly haunted

Out of all the times we've stood there

only once has something "wierd" happen

kinda spooky right?

where the black blur is nobody was standing

Later that night we were in the lobby

and some other guests were telling the front desk lady

they captured a white spirit in a photo

we looked at the photos and

it really looked like it

So then we showed them our photo (one above)

and the front desk lady was like "ooh no that's no good" and that was it!!

Needless to say we didn't sleep much that night

and all the lights stood on!

I love this place, it's all in good fun

The Asylum and The Haunted Burger

both have great food.

And I have to shop at House of Joy everytime I go

Oh and the view is beautiful too!

Today I had a super busy day, I had a mini photo shoot, made a bunch of products to re-stock the shop, started preparing for First Friday, got my hair did:), hung out with tino and colored and got a pumpkin spice surprise from my guy when he got home!

Today I was talking with my grandpo and we were going through some stuff he brought down from Colorado. One of the things he brought was my mom and my two aunts baby teeth, he saved them throughout all these years and never mis-placed or lost them. I thought it was pretty cool considering I only know where 2 of my sons are.....hey the tooth fairy took them, right!

Anybody else a closet "The Hills" watcher. Umm, me either....
ok ok I am. Actually I've been watching the dumb show since Laguna Beach. "SLUT!!!" haha that was a funny episode.
Anyway, I missed the season premiere and can't find any place to watch it online. This is killing me. I can't concentrate on work because I keep wondering what happen with Justin Bobby.

I think it's funny that I pretend force myself to watch certain shows that I actually like but kinda don't. Hard to explain. Perfect example is The Tyra Banks Show, she is so annoying on there sometimes and I'm like "Onjoli why do you watch this?!?"

But theres just something oddly interesting about them like "Rock of Love" haha that show is good for laughs or what about Drake and Josh, well that one's actually pretty good although the little sister is a brat.

I miss TGIF, the old cory and topanga before they got wierd in college.

Sometimes I like to watch shows like, Full House or Saved by the Bell and Quiz myself to see if I know what's going to happen next. Try it, you'd be surprised how much you know.

I can't remember to pay my cell phone on time but ask me on any given day, Where, how and why Kelly and Zack spent there Junior Prom? And I'd know quick. (It was in "The Prom" episode and Kelly's dad was laid off, so she couldn't afford to go to the prom anymore. Remember... "I have to wash my hair". Zack, the stud that he is, planned a private picnic for them outside of the building where the prom was at, he called it "Zack and Kelly's Prom".

Lame-o! I don't actually watch too much T.V. I'd say only a few hours a week (usually tivo'd shows while working). When we are working and have been listening to music for the past 7 hours, we'll throw on a show.

the pumpkin spice is back! the pumpkin spice is back!

i like mine over ice mostly but a frap every now and then is good too

and then hot once we start to cool down in november/december

pumpkin anything is good to me though

my best friend said she doesn't really like the drink

"WHAT?!?! your kidding right?" i told her
and she said she prefers the cinnamon dolce latte
as much coffee as we drink and I've never tried that one
i don't think i have anyway

i totally like to support local coffee businesses but
this damn drink makes me go to starbucks
and really none of the local coffee spots have
a pumpkin drink as of yet
last year i tried one from a little shop here in town
and well... it didn't compare
i think starbucks slips brainwashing dust into there drinks
so we only want theirs.ha!
no but really

I haven't tried it as of yet but I saw the drink on their chalk board when
I went in to get me a tea

Pink De Ville is back to blogging!!

We're also getting a much needed
blog makeover in the months to come!

There's all kinds of new stuff going on, let's see, we will be vending at a few new shows and we are adding a bunch of new stuff to our shop corner in Pink House Treasures.

Also, on the Pink de Ville website, we are having a big update in October (date announced soon). I'm fixing some minor tweaks in the website then we'll be having a Grand Re-Opening of the website as well as a bunch of giveaways here on our blog

as well as some on a few other featured blogs.

There is so many cute new items from crocheted panda hats, handmade journals, scarves, a ton of new aprons, purses and all your favorite fall and winter accessories.

I can't wait to update them all into the website!!

In the meantime, Jesse and I are re-decorating my studio.

So me and my mom tried out this homemade marshmallow recipe
It was fairly easy and tasted pretty good
They were too sweet for Jesse and Tino said they were "ok"
but hey me and my mom loved them.

She was rolling them in colored coconut when we both thought we'd try some
toasted coconut and those turned out to be the best.

Next time we need to find a fix for the stickiness on the top though.

Here is the recipe we used. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

Makes 24

Vegetable oil, for brushing

4 envelopes unflavored gelatin (3 tablespoons plus 1 1/2 teaspoons)

3 cups granulated sugar

1 1/4 cups light corn syrup

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar

Directions

Brush a 9-by-13-inch glass baking dish with oil. Line with parchment, allowing a 2-inch overhang on the long sides. Brush parchment with oil; set aside.

Put granulated sugar, corn syrup, salt, and 3/4 cup water into a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil over high heat, stirring to dissolve sugar. Cook, without stirring, until mixture registers 238 degrees.on a candy thermometer, about 9 minutes.

Meanwhile, put 3/4 cup cold water into the bowl of an electric mixer; sprinkle with gelatin. Let soften 5 minutes.

Attach bowl with gelatin to mixer fitted with the whisk attachment. With mixer on low speed, beat hot syrup into gelatin mixture. Gradually raise speed to high; beat until mixture is very stiff, about 12 minutes. Beat in vanilla. Pour into prepared dish, and smooth with an offset spatula. Set aside, uncovered, until firm, about 3 hours.

Sift 1 cup confectioners' sugar onto a work surface. Unmold marshmallow onto confectioners' sugar; remove parchment. Lightly brush a sharp knife with oil, then cut marshmallow into 2-inch squares. Sift remaining 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar into a small bowl, and roll each marshmallow in the sugar to coat. Marshmallows can be stored in an airtight container up to 3 days.

....because I think I'm in a dream. This can't be real! Look at what I came up on at the thrift store today. I never really go to this particular thrift store because I never find any thing. One time Jesse found a vintage John Stetson fur felt fedora hat, but that's it. Walls and walls of records but nothing good....
...until today. Look at my new beautiful fabric. Oh man the bright neon-ish one is my favorite and both the flower one's are too cute ( a few not pictured yet). I always hear of others when they hit it big with fabric and get a bunch of good stuff and I think "why me!". I guess I just had to wait my turn, now I have a weekly spot to check up on.

When I was looking through all the racks and stacking my arms high with hangers of fabric, I kept thinking "oh man they are going to swap it all from me, don't act too excited" keep in mind the store was empty, I'm just a weirdo. I love em' just love em'!

Now what to make? Actually, I'll probably just end up saving it for years because I never find the perfect idea. Although, I did think of a few I think could look really cute.

Books, music and Aprons

So I thought since I have a huge book collection, I'd post some of my favorites and tell you a little about them if you haven't already read them.

I love hearing what others think of certain items before I purchase them,

so here we go...

So yesterday, I decided to go to the book store get some coffee, pick up Bust and ReadyMade and just skim through books.

Well that didn't happen, I left with three new books plus my magazines. Now I know you could just look at the books at the store and probably jot down notes so you don't have to actually purchase the book. But I can't do that, I have to own the book. I need it to reference back to, go to for inspiration and just have so I can always skim it .

It's like the whole i-tunes thing, I buy all this music but now I never buy cd's and I wish I did because I love thinking I only like a few songs then one day letting the whole album play through and finding out there's a ton of great songs I just bypassed before, plus I like having the cover art. Yeah so I'm going to start buying cd's again although everything sounds better on vinyl (such as Camera Obscura) and it would be cool to add a lot more newer stuff to our vinyl collection.

I don't know what it is but books make me so happy, every time I get a new book (pretty often) I am so excited to read it front to back, skim it for great ideas and look at all the detailed pictures.

So "A is for Aprons" By Nathalie Monu is adorable and gave me a few ideas to try out myself. Plus it's packed with a ton of photos and features aprons from many different artists.

The book also features a bunch of vintage apron photos which I love. Oh and some great pocket ideas.

I also got some new vintage kid apron patterns.

I'm thinking I need to bust out some fabric and make a lil sumin sumin.

very special valentines

So since it's getting close to Valentines Day,

I was thinking of making something really special for my mom, sister and grandpo.

On January 17 my great grandma passed away unexpectedly and my entire family misses her terribly.

A lot of people miss the opportunity of getting to know there great grandma and I was really lucky that I got to know her, hang out with her, paint her nails, all sorts of memories I cherish. So the last time she came up here which was in November for thanksgiving, she stood here and enjoyed the new house, during that time we took a few pictures of her. So I was thinking of making a Grandma Lillie Shrine for all of them and one for me for Valentines Day. It's almost a month since it happen and we all really miss her, although it still seems surreal she's gone. I'm going to put all the stuff that reminds us of her in the shrine so we can look at it years and years from now and never forget.

I'll show it to you guys when I'm done.
